For her 90th birthday, Grandma Cartan received a Churn Dash quilt. Using our Macintoshes, a scanner, an HP inkjet printer, and my trusty Bernina sewing machine, we placed fabric photos of family members in the center of each block. The method I used in 1994 was primitive and not very washable. Nowadays it's much easier to make a phototransfer quilt by using phototransfer sheets. The sheets, produced by Canon and Kodak, among others, sometimes are sold as iron-on T-shirt transfers. You can find them in stationery stores, at quilt shops, or online at vendors such as Nancys Notions. |
