I rather suspect that you have the influence backwards; from the copyright page of my manual I see the notation "Empire, Wargame of the Century Copyright 1978..."
Regarding your request for piece descriptions: The manual Appendix II has 20+ pages of interesting stuff, more than I can readily type - even with my copious spare time. But let's see what I can do.

Also, I seem to have misplaced my "Screen Capture utility". Point me to such an application, and I'll send along some terrain examples, as well as piece graphics.
