Well, MY recollections of Margaret Lakey are much more positive than yours, John: I thought she was attractive and had a nice personality. In fact, I'd probably list her near the top of your pile of infatuations, at least through college.
The falling-out that I remember came from an attempt to date her, probably when we were all in the Eighth grade. Supposedly Margaret was interested, but her parents said dating would have to wait until she turned sixteen.
The last time I saw - or heard of - Margaret was around 1977. She was going to Pacific Lutheran University, and dropped by my dorm room at the University of Washington for a moment. I was too surprised to say anything more intelligent than "Hello".
My memories of Darla Sovereign are, sadly, less positive. I was living in Columbus at the time, and John came out for a visit one summer. Danny Scoville was also there for a week or so, and John kept us up every night into the wee hours with his lovesick ravings. "Darla's so beautiful, she drives me up the wall", is the phrase that comes most easily to mind.
