IBM - Introduces a voice-activated personal computer based on Dragon Systems' technology
{The Boston Globe, 24-May-91, p. 38}:
Called IBM VoiceType, the system allows a person to use a PC simply by dictating a word or command into a microphone. The system, jointly developed by IBM and privately held Dragon, is designed principally for people with disabilities that make it difficult to use a conventional keyboard. It has a 7,000-word vocabulary and an 80,000-word backup dictionary. It also has a recognition capability that can adapt and compensate for accents and other individual speech characteristics.
