John and I recently watched the movie L.A. Story, starring Steve Martin. We enjoyed one scene where Steve was trying to make dinner reservations at a fancy French restaurant and was examined by the owner and a bank to determine if he could actually afford to eat there. I liked the scene 'cause Captain Jean Luc was in it (ah, sigh) .
But, back to the point. We decided to dine-out on New Year's Eve and toast the New Year with champagne in our spa. Doesn't that sound wonderful? So, I called to make reservations at a little French restaurant my boss recommended. We got a 6:45pm seating AND a request for our credit card number! I almost started laughing, but I was talking to Rene the owner, who has a very French accent, so I gave him the number. If we didn't show, we would be charged $40. I couldn't believe it! I have never had to leave a "deposit" for a dinner! I was concerned that maybe Rene would check my credit limit and not let us eat there!
