I've noticed that a lot of people in San Francisco have jobs they don't consider to be their career - they do THAT in their off-hours. The job is just there to pay the rent and bills.
This has caused me to think a lot about what I really want to do with myself. I often think about getting a more meaningful job when things pick up a bit, only to ask myself "Why not just keep this one and do what you really love after work?" After all, this job is not stressful, I don't really get caught up in all the management B.S. that I would in a higher position, I make enough money to get by.....
At the same time, I think a lot of my self-esteem is wrapped up into what I do for a living. I get tired of always having to wait for someone else's approval before acting, or doing somebody else's menial tasks, especially since I have not had to do this for a while (keeps me humble).
How do the rest of you relate to your jobs/careers? Is what you do for money the thing you love to do? Or does your job support what you really enjoy doing?
