It is once again time to renew your Archipelago subscription. Drury, Janine, and Holly have already paid up. The rest of you need to enclose a crisp twenty dollars with your next packet. Thank you in advance!
I recently took the time add up all the work (play?) we've accomplished in the first 27 issues. According to my calculations, THIS is card number 2349. By the end of volume 26, we had written 527,647 words. I believe this means we have now surpased War and Peace (in length if not in quality). We should easily reach our first million words by the end of the decade.
The value (I hope!) of this enterprise is not in the quantity of our words, but in the quality. I feel that we can all take pride in what we've accomplished so far. It has not been easy for any of us to keep pounding out those voice cards month after month, but we are building something of lasting value, preserving a remarkable fellowship, and having a bit of fun along the way. I view Holly's return as an especially auspicious sign for the future of our group.
So here's to another year of Archipelago! Thank you all for making it possible.
