This is a response to VC 27 Drury 8 ("When you grow-up")...
Well, despite numerous misgivings about my abilities with English, I have decided that I want to corrupt the minds of our youth and fill them with useless dribble.
(Wouldn't it be nice if all kids were taught manners, and didn't take guns to school? Ah well, my uncle is a black belt and has offered to teach me some self-defense skills. )
I have decided that what I really want to teach is High School English. I am a firm believer that if a person can read, they can become whatever they wish. (Even if they can't read, some people have accomplished so much, but just think about how much more they could do if they could read!)
While I may be young and naive, I do realize that I will not be able to help all of my students. I just hope that I will be able to make some difference. You will all probably be hearing more since I will be starting my "lab" experience tomorrow. This involves classroom observation, and because I want to teach high school, I am being sentenced to work with Jr. high kids. The reasoning is that in all reality, my first job as a teacher will probably be in a middle school. High school jobs are harder to come by.
Words of wisdom for survival would be much appreciated.
Wish me luck... the middle school monsters are waiting.
