The Path a Lick Leaves

Voice Card  -  Volume 32  -  John Card Number 1  -  Thu, Jun 9, 1994 11:49 PM

This is ONE OF 3 responses to VC 32 Stuart 2 ("How Could You Haiku")...

Stuart makes it look so easy. But anyone who tries it knows how hard it really is to make a good haiku, let alone anything approaching Stuart's magnificent specimen.

Still, it is fun, even addicting. Once I got started I just couldn't stop. In fact, I made seven. None of them are on Stuart's level, and none of them have anything to do with dairy products (YETCH!), but here they are nonetheless:

Her father's daughter,
A legacy of thunder:
Janine laughs loudest.

Woman sips her wine.
Sad eyes smile, grin slips open,
Girl escapes: Suzanne.

Footsteps receeding.
Sound of a phone not ringing.
Paul walking alone.

Raven hair, white hands,
Wings to mend, no time to talk,
Drury flies away.

Up in the attic
Breadstick snaps, keyboard taps as
Roger dreams along.

Letter by letter
An alphabet unfurls from
Stuart's velvet paw.

She takes it in stride,
The instant mom, blushing bride,
Christmas gift: Holly.
