Would you tell me what *humanism* is, please? I think I know by the context in which the word is used but I wonder if is there a succinct definition and is humanism a recent thing?

Another question: It seems that "Christians" are anti-humanism - why? I can guess the answer to that too but I would like a scholarly answer.
