This is a response to volume 4, Holly Card Number 13 ("Take it from the top")...
Holly:
Thank you for all the music info; I need all the help I can get. Are you going to create a HyperEssay using my fabulous HECK/ASK program? Oh, I do hope so!
You asked how I did the carol stack. Actually, I did NOT do the carol stack; it just drifted into my net as part of the unceasing public domain flotsom. The stack was made by someone named Bruce Long "and dedicated to Yeshua ben Panthera."
You may be delighed to hear that the HyperTalk language includes everything you need to make beautiful music.
A command like this one:
play "flute" tempo 140 "g4e g g g a gs e ce d e ds b3s ae gh"
will play "Sleigh Ride" using a flute (assuming your stack has access to a flute sound - that's where the Sound Of The Month Club comes in). You can specify octave, note duration, sharps and flats, etc.
All of this is discussed in Danny Goodman's Complete HyperCard Handbook. If you ever try your hand at making your own stacks, you may also want to peer inside the Sound Club Archive stack to see how it works. Somewhere down the line perhaps we could collaborate on some sort of music stack!
