How about decreasing the size of the button that takes you back to the card to which you are responding (are there names for all these buttons?). You know, the one with the arrow pointing down in that loooooonnnnngg rectangular box. Perhaps that button could cut in half and a nice little button with a notebook on it placed to its left.
