Necessary "Dissidents"

Voice Card  -  Volume 9  -  Larry Card Number 1  -  Sun, Sep 24, 1989 9:51 PM

This is ONE OF 2 responses to Vol 8 Stuart 1 ("Re. Roger's Hello Card ")...

Student protest, at least in this country, has generally served as the moral voice of the country. Whether it is sexism, racism, war, or the environmental damage, student groups are always among the loudest voices to condemn non-response (or slow response).

Many student demands or goals have seemed vague, global, unreachable, etc. to many. However, attaining the goal is not necessary or even expected. Calling attention to, and shedding some light on the problem is just as important. Any steps taken toward obtaining the goal will almost always come after a widespread understanding or awareness of the issue.

A country or any organization will become stagnant if it doesn't allow opinions other than its own. Dissidence is not a negative term.
