OPENING MESSAGE

Hello Card  -  Volume 18  -  Drury Card Number 0  -  Mon, Jan 7, 1991 4:34 PM

At last! Sacramento has RAIN!

This long drought threatens to make life unpleasant next summer. It may mean water rationing for us. Our reservior is at the lowest ever. Of course our recent freeze did not help matters. As the temperatures usually are above 35-40F during Sacramento winters, few water pipes are insulated for freezing temperatures. During the last freeze, water mains/pipes burst everywhere! Some of us wasted water to protect the pipes by opening the faucets to drip constantly. Saved the pipes but wasted water during a drought.

The freeze also destroyed our orange crop and I heard rumors the trees themselves are in danger. They are watering the fields to prevent any further damage. (Again, we are in a three year drought.)

Today it is raining. Next week I will hit the ski slopes in the Sierras!
