Joblessness in Sacramento

Voice Card  -  Volume 32  -  Drury Card Number 3  -  Mon, May 30, 1994 12:23 PM

My summer is shaping-up nicely! I am officially a LOL (lady-of-leisure). I tendered my resignation (whatever that means) on April 29 and flew off to a life of financial uncertainty. What power, what freedom I have found! I never realized how creative I could be in juggling bill payments.

None of my plans for the future bore fruit. I received some five rejection notices for various avian/exotic animal university positions. With some of them, I discovered the old maxim "it's who you know, not what you know" is still in-force! Several of these universities took on some real bozos, people with no real qualifications for the job advertised.

Fortunately someone or something else had other plans for me. Within days of freedom, I found myself being courted by a local veterinary laboratory. An avian/exotic veterinary friend of mine helped to convince them they should expand their support in this area. I am now putting in some part-time hours and doing what I do well; talking to veterinarians about lab results and their challenging cases. The pay is even decent!

Because of previous commitments, I need large blocks of time to finish papers and proposals, so I will continue to maintain that trim financial portfolio I love so well.

I really think this joblessness is going to catch-on!
