A friend of mine subscribes to Compuserve and listens in on some of the conversations that routinely take place these days between far-flung computer users. As it turns out, they have a word for people who listen to other people's conversations without ever pitching in a few words of their own: "Lurkers."
I have no comment to make; I just like the word...
