I'm not offended by eccentricity but eccentricity and wealth are not the same thing. I guess John has a point, wealth offends me in some cases such as when it's used to judge others or when the wealthy condescend to the rest of us based only on our lack of wealth.
I knew an acquaintance who came from a wealthy family. Another person was reciting what her family owned (boat, house, "cabin", "mobile home", very nice cars, etc.). The acquaintance said, "I'm no better than anyone else." I thought to myself, "I don't believe that was the argument."
My other wealth story is that a former employer of considerable wealth criticized me for wanting to purchase mid-range office furniture. He told me we can't always have what we want as he hung up the phone in his BMW while wearing his camel hair coat. Then at the office furniture saleman's office the saleman was comparing office furniture to cars, "This is the Ford of the line." My employer leaned over, patted me on the knee and said, "Some of us want the Cadillac."
My complaint is not with money but with a few of the people who happen to have it.
ALSO
I was impressed that John measured the Woz's creativity whereas I was being self-righteous and judgmental.
