This is a response to VC 30 Stuart 1 ("Kid lit syl. 4 Yumi")...
This is not really a response to Stuart's card, this is more an associated thought.
I have a request of you reading/teaching types. I need a list of good kid stories for grades 4-6. Every year I am asked to a "Read Aloud" week at a local school. The kids are suppose to see how reading is very important to the lives of the adults in the real world. They have been entertained by the likes of the Sacramento mayor and TV news personalities. Generally we read a short story (about 20-30 minutes) and then answer questions about our professions.
I have been volunteering for this "Read Aloud" week for five years now. I have run out of stories to read. Any suggestions? I am willing to try poetry, but I don't have a very interesting reading voice. Can anyone help me with some ideas?
Please.
