This is ONE OF 2 responses to VC 31 John 11 ("Telecommuting")...
John's points are valid, but they don't contradict the vision of my base note. I am a big believer in social interactions; I never telephone someone in my office building when I can walk to them and talk in person, instead; and my extensive travel is due, in part, to my belief that forming personal relationships with customers is crucial to business success. In my base note I mentioned the need for regular face-to-face meetings with clients or bosses.
The trick involves finding work in which there is a balance between the solitary creating and the face-to-face interactions. John and I have demonstrated to my satisfaction, through the progress of our game, that such work exists, and that such a separation can be feasible.
Would I be happy living indefinitely in an environment such as John had in Canyon Creek? Maybe, maybe not. It's nice to dream, though, isn't it?
