Election Time

Voice Card  -  Volume 2  -  John Card Number 26  -  Fri, Nov 18, 1988 4:36 PM

This is a response to volume 2, Robert Card Number 5 ("Avowed Procrastinator")...

Everyone:

The time has come to cast our first Archipelago ballots. You will find two propositions under the Survey button on the main screen. The cards themselves have already been installed inside the transit stack and are waiting for the click of your mouse. Let your voice be heard!

Proposition 1. All Archipelago ballot issues shall be settled by a two thirds majority vote of all RESPONDING members. Thus if all ten members respond, seven votes will be required; if eight respond only five votes will be needed to pass a proposition.

Proposition 2. Propositions must first appear in a voice card and cannot be voted on until at least the following issue. This will allow for debate and discussion before voting.

I do so love a paradox! What if only six of the ten members approve proposition 1? Does it pass? And what if proposition 2 passes? Does it invalidate itself since it did not appear in the previous issue's voice volume? If the numbers come out just right, the two propositions might be able to cancel each other out! After the dust of the first election settles, we could have another election to clarify the first election! What fun!

P.S. Have any of you ever heard of the game of NOMIC?
