More ways of dealing with fussy babies:

1. Sing those silly songs you learned in kindergarten 100 years ago (yes, it comes back when you're desperate).

2. Hold the baby just under the armpits and shake gently.

3. Jangle keys and notice how the kid's attention span lasts longer than your arm.

4. Hand your darling infant to an unsuspecting visitor while you run out of the room "just for a moment."
